So, it’s been a little over a week since I set down in “blog,” a series of resolutions for December. How have I done so far?
I’ve got out of bed each day, rearranged the covers, put on street clothes and funky jewelry, and walked at least ½ hour most days.
I’ve tried to keep up with things cyber: blogs, facebook, and commenting. (Spent too much time in the virtual world, actually, and have gotten behind on in the real one).
Still looking for focus; haven’t done anything with my mystery novel idea and am even more lost than before. So, I guess that gives me a 2.5 — 3/7 for week one – I had hoped I’d get a passing grade.

Wow! Put on street clothes and funky jewelry AND walked a half hour most days? Phylor, you are a Goddess! I rarely put on real clothes. I did take the dog for two walks this week. The second one was only 13 minutes because my face froze off. I was a little unprepared for the walk back, INTO the wind.
I am thinking about the funky jewelry thing. This this might be a good goal for me. Just because I’m in my jammies doesn’t mean I can’t express myself!
Hi Jane:
Sorry I didn’t respond sooner to your comment! Another resolution in the works! The weather here has been a bit colder than normal with wind chills in the 20s; those are the days I wear at least 2 layers of everything!
The jewelry thing works for me: I feel “better” when I have my funky stuff on. And, its fun to pick out what to wear: which neckace, earrings and bracelets (always wear at least 3). It’s my “wardrobe!”
Thanks for the encouragement, Tammy. I find that some days I can’t walk and think at the same time! lol
Well you’re certainly an inspiration I would say! Gettin up, puttin on street clothes, funky jewelery…and WALKING a half hour each day??? And on top of that just the mental process of thinkin thru your book idea? That’s alot there missy! lol….seriously, kudo’s to you for settin your goals and goin for it! That’s an A in my book! Good for you!
Thanks, Dominique. As I indicated earlier, some of my walks were cumulative times and “forced marches” due to appointments or shopping, but I was dressed, outside and moving, so that does count for something.
I agree with everyone else. Half an hour a day! Wow! 4 stars just for that, phylor!
I’m with hibernationnow. Up and dressed and out walking every day is great!!! Writing anything as complex as a novel takes a lot of “internal work”. Time spent just musing over possible plot twists and characters counts.
Thanks for your encouragement. I have bits and pieces of the mystery novel written down (and some in my head which is not a good storage container these days) but not in any particular order. I need to write a general outline, and see if my parts “fit” into a beginning, middle and end. I also want to avoid the things that have annoyed me in other mysteries: too many “red herring” clues, too obvious; plot lines that don’t follow; a “surprise” ending, etc.
Haven’t been feeling all that creative lately, so progress is slow. Heck, it’s taken me longer than usual just to reply to comments!
Any creative process takes time, usually coming in spurts, I’ve found. I can’t wait to read your novel. In the meantime, I’ll just keep reading here.
I’m still so impressed on your resolutions. You go girl!
Thanks, Ellen. I’ll be sure to invite you to my first book signing!
I think you have accomplished a lot given that you have gotten out of bed and you got dressed every day. Walking? Outside? You deserve a medal.I’d say a definite “A” !
Thanks, for the A! A lot of the walking had to do with doctor’s appointments; it’s a 10 minute walk to and from the train station to home; then I had walks of between 10 min. and 1/2 hour (depending on where I was going). So, I wasn’t necessarily walking 1/2 hour “in a row.” Thought total time might be okay?
You got B+ in my book for week #1 – the fact that you walked for 1/2 most days is terrific.

Idea: Do a blog and write your Mystery novel a page a day. You may already know but Lulu.com, blog2print.com, printmyblog.com will take your blog and put it into a book.
Thanks for the B+! Didn’t know about lulu.com; going to check it out.
