Recovered from broken wrist (fell July 25, 2009); autumn is my absolute favourite season; dabble in calligraphy, and creating one-of-a-kind cards and stationery; research, write, and sometimes (fingers crossed) publish articles and instructors’ guides. As a chronic pain survivor (20+ years) trying to blog about chronic pain with a positive attitude, and explore alternative therapies/treatments. Fondness for run-on sentences and cliché days. Stream of (un)consciousness writing late at night/early in the morning. Memory/comfort as a foreign country: was dealing with mother’s descent into dementia and agonizing, chronic pain. Now dealing with life as an orphan; rememberances of further fathers and other mothers. New chapters to be written? New directions to be explored?

    • It’s actually 1.5+ years, but who’s counting! From the top side, you really wouldn’t notice that the wrist is slightly out of alignment (probably my fault due to cast phobia and the daily unwrap, ice, rewrap even though I held my wrist steady on a pillow during the process. From underneath, you can see the scar and a bump out on my wrist. I do have pretty much full range of motion back: I did some physical therapy, the replicated some of the exercises at home to save $. The hand surgeon took pictures of my reconstructed wrist from various angles after about 6 sessions of physical therapy to show his other patients what is possible after an eggshell wrist fracture.
I do (should say did these days) calligraphy so it was important to get as much back to normal as possible. I can hold a pen: I just need to get my calligraphy muse/mojo working again! Been typing so much, and scribbling postitnotes to myself, I’m not sure how good my “handwriting” is. Time will tell, I guess.
Thanks for asking — probably a longer response that you were expecting, but I had swelling issues on my right hand today that reminded me of the whole process (my hand and arm kept swelling in the cast the whole time there were on!), and then I get around to email, and find your comment on my wrist!
Not sure where my cuff is: might need to break it out for the holidays!

    • I am behind in my responses. Thank you — I feel really hono(u)red and humbled to be included in your list! The folks/blogs you have chosen are all inspiring and incredibly well written.

  2. Hi, I was just reading some of your blog. I too created a Chronic Pain Blog. My epidural went wrong in 2003 and have had pain ever since.
My husband & myself found few sites that related to what it is like to be us. Lots of pharmaceutical sites, but not alot of ones about coping and coping strategies.
I try to take a positive on it too, but also use it to vent some frustrations.
Anyway, if you have any advice, please pass along.

  3. I think it’s great that you’re trying to connect chronic pain sites and blogs. I thought you might be interested in my band and my website. We released an album in January called Overcome which dealt with overcoming the adversities of Fibromyagia and we donated 1/3 of the proceeds to the NFA. We had an amazing, wonderful response to it. Here is the link to the album. You can hear clips at this link. Then be certain to check out the blog page so you can read the latest blog on FIBRO…
