I thought of going to Sunshine and Chaos to choose one of the wonderful quotes she posts on Sundays. I write in the kitchen, and while thinking of how to approach the topic, I went to the fridge. Of course!; my 3 fridge magnets. And, when our budget no longer allowed for extras, I wrote some fridge magnet quotes in my notebook.
The prompt was to choose a quote and write about it for 15 minutes. Right now, hard to choose inspirational quotes to write about, to dissect, critique, muse upon; to embrace or reject. The quotes on the fridge or copied into my notebook I hoped would help me with developing positive daily mantras. Unfortunately, these words are not strong enough to keep my world from crashing down; to help me continue embracing dreams so often shot down by circumstances beyond my control. Hard to hold onto the positive especially when there are days my meds for bipolar 2 don’t seem to work allowing the deep, chronic depression that is part of the syndrome, to sit on my shoulders, stooping my back even more than usual.
It’s not for lack of trying, for imaging a better future, that I find myself in the black hole again. I hang on with my fingernails, hoping that somehow, a ladder appears and I climb back up into the starlight. Bipolar 2 and the depression make things difficult, and alter my impressions of the virtual and real world. When the depression lessens, and sunlight can chase away the shadows, I can more clearly; there are fairy lights, friends, and bright moments and days. Maybe someday fridge magnets will inspire again.
I want to share with you these quotes (and end with two of my favorite quotes NOT on any fridge magnets I know of). I really hope and wish that these quotes resonate with others, giving them inspiration. These words hold promises, dreams, positivity, and hope.
{This is a long, bambling post, I know, but I thought I’d be honest about how I feel whatever the consequences of sharing this. Depression and bipolar 2 can be difficult for me, and for others, to deal with. And, unfortunately, our circumstances are not the best right now, adding to being down and pessimistic.}
On the fridge:
DON’T QUIT. There is no telling how FAR you will have to run while CHASING YOUR DREAMS.
Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars. . .
never never never give up (Winston Churchill)
In the notebook:
Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain. (Vivian Green)
Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. (Eleanor Roosevelt)
Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you’ve imagined.
Life isn’t about finding yourself – it’s about creating yourself.
What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?
Favorites from the past: (actually a poem and song lyrics that fit the topic of inspiration)
Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly
Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow
(Langston Hughes, 1926)
Blackbird singing in the dead night
Take these broken wings
And learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise . . .
Blackbird fly, blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night
(The Beatles: “Blackbird” from the album The Beatles; song recorded June 11, 1968)
