disclaimer: Sonnets are not my strong point. In fact, I can’t remember from English 101 what comprises a sonnet, except for concept of love and that Shakespeare (and maybe Plutrarch (spelling)) wrote a lot of them. The carry-one Tuesday prompt 2 Sundays ago was “it was love at first sight.” After two prose pieces and free verse, I got into rhythming. If I had any musical talent, might have constructed these as song lyrics.
Sonnet I (with apologies to bill Shakespeare)
What was it you said that night,
About truth, beauty, and love at first sight?
Travelled over 1,500 weary miles
To find your eyes in a sea of smiles
Uprooted my life going coast to coast
Fresh start seemed what I needed most
Cynic’s heart, dark like the night
Abandoned hope of the “Mr. Right”
Moved from “sea to shining sea”
Learning contentment with just being me
Left behind memories of friendship and fun
Rushing head long into what we’d begun
Sonnet II (more apologies to bill s.)
What was it you said that night,
About truth, beauty and ever lasting light?
I had no idea how strong I would feel
That my cynical, empty heart would yield
So this is love at first sight
An aura that shines so bright
The power that true love can wield
Is enough for all doubts to steal
From the moment our eyes met, it felt right
I was your princess, you were my knight
Sonnett III (now bill is really rolling)
it was love at first sight
cynical heart lost the fight
i walked in; and there was you
melted by smile, what could I do
close my eyes and still see
the way we both used to be
hard to believe that 3 decades have past
that our togetherness would last
