mindlovemisery’s menagerie, photo-challenge 15, birdhouse

Artist: Robert Dowling

She wondered what it was like. To fly. To escape. Freedom.

Dreamt of climbing up to the birdhouse. Shrinking down until she could sit on the perch.

Waiting. Breath held. Heart exploding. Hands shaking.

Residents arrive. Begin their season of rebirth.

Then the question. Will you teach me to fly. Like your children.

Patience. Practice. Practice. Anxious. Nervous. Ready.

Let go of perch. Dress becomes wings. Tentative flap.

A bluebird flying. Escape. Freedom.

The birds have much to teach us. I wish they could teach me how to fly!

Me too, it would be a wonderful thing to be able to do.

Lovely. I so wish I could fly in a blue dress.

It would be wonderful, wouldn’t it. I’ve always wanted to fly — a glider plane, hot air balloon.

I love dialogue. Do you?
