Sleeping with Skulls 24
Lauren Treece

I can not sleep

on your bed of skulls

You made it

so I would know

of death and sorrow

Don’t I already

grieve enough?

Don’t I already

hurt enough?

What measure of shrieking

What measure of moaning

will satisfy your lust

for pain?

Very striking imagery painted here — the strength of the last 2 full sentences creates one incredible impact.

Thank you Pat. I’m glad that those last 2 lines have an impact. The poem wrote itself, actually. “I can not sleep on your bed of skulls” just popped into my head, with no idea where that would leave me, but my poetic muse took over. And there you have it.

      Thank you.
I’m afraid today, I will only be able to finish prompts and publish. Reading other peoples, such as you, will have to wait for another day.
