entertaining the devil

Satan’s minions

sit around his feet.

“What shall we do today,” he purrs,

curling each side of his moustache

with bejeweled fingers.

Each one strains forward

“pick me, pick me”

waving their hand

“War.”

“Global warming.”

“Political action.”

“Plague.”

The devil waves his hand for quiet

and shakes his head.

“Just won’t do,” he says.

“I want to be entertained.”

Standing up, dramatically

sweeping back his cape

he points toward the

back of his throne room.

“So, newbie,” he croons

“What would you have us do today?”

“Blood Money,” she answered.

“Blood Money, it is,” called out the Devil

“Blood Money it is.”

Exactly!. Blood Money today, flood and famine tomorrow. As you said, it would be nice if he got too bored!

After all this time I imagine the devil is a bit over fire, flood and pestilence. I enjoyed this take on the prompt phylor.

Thanks. The title of the prompt fascinated me, so I wrote around the idea of blood money. Somehow, the devil, as he often does, got involved.

Love the image created in my mind of a devil bored with war and plague. If only he were bored enough to stop causing them.
