Before the Black Origami Birds Escape Their Cage

She woke up screaming. She flayed her arms. No gossamer tent.

She murmured: “Dream. That dream. Only a dream.”

She sat up. Ears and eyes searching for the familiar.

The curtains breathed against the open window.

She slide out of bed. Padded to the window. The world was as she left it.

“Wake up sooner,” she whispered. “Before floppy rabbit becomes a demon.

Before the black origami birds escape their cage.”

She stopped half way back to her bed.

On the other pillow, lay a black origami crane.

I’m in training for writing flash fiction. For someone as long-winded as I am, the challenge is to reduce 800 words to 100!
