git it right sum time

Time for another round of Rochelle’s magic and marvelous Friday Fictioneers. Each week, she posts a photograph, then asks for responses in 100 word flash fiction. This is my response to July 1-3’s challenge.

Paula owns an art gallery. Her husband, Elliot, a high priced lawyer. They turn their Mercedes Benz SUV down another country road; Paula looking for undiscovered folk artists.

Soon Paula makes her finest discovery to date. A line of cars bearing colourful paint jobs and graffiti, front ends completely buried in the sand. Camera in hand, she leaps from the SUV.

“Amazing. Spectacular. Marketable. Money.” Paula mumbles.

As she takes photographs, an elderly gentleman rambles over.

“Who did this?” she gasps.

After spitting brown tobacco juice from the chaw in his cheek: “Lonnie’ll git those car jumps right sum time.” {word count: 100}

{Having band width issues, so this is being posted directly to blog. I don’t know if I activated the link back to Friday Fictioneers. And, I won’t be able to read other stories until our band width (internet speed) is restored. It’s like dial up speed!}

    Let’s hope he does. And one person’s art (and cash flow) is another’s …. sorry, can’t think of anything clever to write, but Im sure you can.

      I do understand. As to my cleverness, not at the time I am finally acknowledging comments many days late.

    Maybe Lonnie can suggest a ‘happening’ and charge her heavily for the privilege? Fun story!

      I like the idea! She can pass the costs along to her clients, lol

    Dear Phylor,

    Your last line had me laughing out loud. Clever take on the prompt.

    It’s art if folk are prepared to pay for it. A fool and his money are easily parted.

      Oh yes! I lived in an area where folks artists were common and “folk art” was part of the local culture as in quilts, rag rugs, paintings, carvings, etc.
      Folk art did raise them to a higher level of acknowledgment as many were true artists in their media, especially carving. It was the method or untrained nature of their work that deemed them folk artists.
      Most were truly folk artists — creating for their own pleasure and then the $$$ when folk art was in.

    Lonnie’s improving all the time. The trajectory is right, it’s just the distance and landing procedure that needs some work. Nice one.

      Hopefully, for monetary reasons, he won’t land a few more so Paula can show his cars at her art gallery.

      I had fun writing it. Folk Art, Paula and Elliot came first. Then, ah, why the cars are half-buried in the sand which brought me to Lonnie. ;D
