Welcome, Sanaa to your co-hosting gig at mlmm!
“What did u expect?,” Sheena texted. “Lightening never strikes 2x.”
Jonathon switched his phone to airplane mode, laid back on the bed, hands behind his head. Should be celebrating their 10th anniversary today; but she’d been gone two years now.
The aching emptiness caught up with him last night, so he’d reached out to Sheena. Looking for what? Sympathy? Compassion? Understanding? He’d got none of that.
If Sheena didn’t want messages at 3:30 in the am, then turn her damn phone off.
Jonathon went through his remembories yet again. How the first time they looked into each other’s eyes, it was like lightening. An instant, electric connection. No hesitation, no awkwardness.
He’d never felt that way before, and it wrapped his heart and soul in a continuous warm hug.
Truly constant companions, enjoying each other’s company. Then, gone. In a frighteningly slo-mo instant. Hit and run. Her limp body against the curb. He’d held her as the last of her life’s blood drained mixed with his tears.
“Sheena was right as always,” he thought, swinging himself out of bed. “No funk. Moved on,” he told himself.
Woke up his computer, his current constant companion. Half-mindedly scrolled facebook, reading friends posts like a robot. Skipped around the blogs he followed as the sun turned his desk dawn-red.
Shower. Coffee. Routine.
Then something nudged him, then nudged again. He grabbed car keys and wallet.
His inner GPS working over time, he pulled into the lot. He was going to find her again. He was sure. Lightening was going to strike twice.
When their eyes met, he’d know.
He smiled, waiting for the animal shelter to open. His new constant companion, sat patiently in her pen inside.
Why not consider adopting a shelter pet today? Give a furry friend a forever home.
